Who is Payal Singhal
Payal Singhal grew up surrounded by fashion, films, and art. The granddaughter of renowned artist and photographer J.P. Singhal and daughter of designer Dinesh Singhal of London Fashions, creativity was central to her upbringing.
Born in Mumbai, she began sketching early and created her first couture look at 15, later winning Shopper’s Stop’s ‘Designer of the Year’ award, with her design worn by Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She studied fashion design at SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, and further trained at Parsons School of Design and FIT in New York before launching her label in 1999. Today, she is known for building a brand that is accessible, relevant, and forward-thinking.
Mrs. G x Payal Singhal Exclusive Discussion

To understand what’s shaping Indian occasion wear this year, we spoke with Payal Singhal about silhouettes, color trends, and what defines her signature design language.
Payal Singhal's Insights on 2026 Trends

HERE'S HER TAKE...
1. What silhouette do you think will be the most in-demand for the 2026 festive and wedding season?
For 2026, fluid and versatile silhouettes will lead festive and wedding dressing. Kaftans, contemporary shararas, soft lehengas, and coordinated sets that allow ease of movement will be key. Women today want Indian wear that feels celebratory yet effortless, and works across cultures and destinations. The focus will be on silhouettes that blend comfort, craftsmanship, and a modern global sensibility.
2. When someone spots a Payal Singhal piece, what’s the signature element they’ll notice first?
3. What matters most to you when creating a piece — what do you hope a woman feels the moment she wears a Payal Singhal design?
I want her to feel confident, comfortable, and completely herself. Indian wear should enhance her presence, not overpower it. Every piece is designed to move with her, allowing her to enjoy the moment with ease and elegance and make her feel her best.
4. Is there a color or palette — or a new fabric / print style — you see becoming a major trend in Indian occasion wear this year?
I see a shift towards soft, refined palettes paired with deeper jewel tones — colors that feel elegant across cultures. Lightweight georgettes, silk blends, and fluid fabrics will continue to dominate occasion wear. Prints and surface details inspired by florals and heritage motifs, interpreted in a contemporary way, will resonate strongly with a global audience.
5. From your collection on Mrs. G, which are your favorite sets — and why?
From the Mrs. G edit, I’m drawn to our sharara and choli sets detailed with embroidery and tassels. These pieces reflect the essence of the brand — festive, feminine, and versatile. They balance tradition with modern ease, making them perfect for intimate weddings as well as contemporary celebrations!
